Game-Day Traffic and Road-Closure Tips

Traffic around Lane Stadium starts building three to four hours before kickoff. Parking lots (donor and public) open at 7 a.m. on Saturday game days and stay open until 7 a.m. Sunday; for non-Saturday games lots open after 3 p.m. and must clear before 6 a.m. the next day.

Southgate Drive and Spring Road bottleneck first. If you're coming from I-81, exit 118 to 460 West and enter Blacksburg from the south rather than through downtown.

Prices Fork Road stays open to through traffic on game days — it's usually your best west-side route in and out. What does close is the stadium core: Virginia Tech closes Beamer Way from Southgate Drive to Washington Street three and a half hours before kickoff, and Spring Road and Southgate Drive get flipped to outbound-only flow after the game.

Stadium gates open two hours before kickoff and Hokie Village opens 3.5 hours before kickoff, so plan your walk-in accordingly. There is no re-entry once you're inside Lane Stadium.

Rideshare pickup and drop-off (Uber/Lyft) is on Washington Street next to the Hahn Garden. Blacksburg Transit runs an expanded game-day schedule and is free to all riders — routes drop at the Transit Center near the Perry Street garage, where you board the Campus Shuttle (CAS) to Cassell Coliseum.

Expect police-directed traffic control at the Southgate/Duck Pond and Main Street intersections for about an hour after the final whistle. If you'd rather not sit in it, walk downtown, eat, and let the lots drain.
